The ESSENTIAL 5 Day Detox

A Whole Body DETOX PROGRAM

The Essential 5 Day Detox

With 5 drinks a day and a soup to round out most nights, you’ll feel perfectly nourished. This is a cleanse as well as a liquid fast. The difference being that a cleanse will work to pull things out of your body, while a liquid fast will give your body a chance to take a break from digestion and naturally expel waste. Your body does not have to work overtime with digestion when you simplify your intake. It will focus, rather, on digesting the 3-12 pounds of waste weight that the average person is carrying around in their colon and intestines. Meanwhile, it replaces toxins with the nutrients from the juices, drinks, and soups. The calorie count is approx. 1100-1300 depending on the day. All ingredients purchased should be 100% certified organic. Although all five days are a maximum full body detox, each day has been primarily designed to focus on a specific region of the body. You will need a juicer, a blender, and a stove top to complete the entire cleanse. This cleanse should be done twice a year, or every three months. Do it with family or friends for added support and fun. Feel free to take milk thistle, dandelion, or stinging nettle leaves and boil them to make fresh tea throughout your cleanse. Blood sugar, candida, or diabetic issues should be addressed first for a modified version of this cleanse.

**Day One will focus on the Kidneys. We have to ensure the health and quality of our kidneys. They are highly sensitive to our dietary habits. Situations of overloading them with animal products, sodium, refined sugar, processed foods, and alcohol can stress out our kidney function. They are also particularly fragile to the introduction of heavy metals like lead and mercury that can do extensive damage from cleaning solutions, cigarette smoke, and the air we breathe . Using several foods and herbs including watermelon, blueberries, cilantro, and Uva Ursi, we will do the best full kidney detox one day can provide.

**Day Two nurtures the Adrenals and Thyroid. It’s also an overall alkalizing day to build the blood and strengthen the body. Day two includes lots of swiss chard, watercress, parsley, nourishing oils, and herbs. We’ll be amping things with greens, omega-3’s, magnesium and naturally sourced iodine. Today is a day of hormone balance and detoxification.

**Day Three is built to aid the Liver and Gallbladder. The gallbladder provides an important digestive function. Its job is to emulsify fats. What is emulsification? One can easily understand this concept when washing greasy dishes. It is nearly impossible to clean greasy dishes without soap, as the soap emulsifies the fat so it can be removed. Similarly, the gall bladder stores bile and bile acids, which emulsifies the fats one eats so they can be properly transported through the intestine into the bloodstream. A poorly functioning gallbladder handicaps your digestive system. People whose intake of dietary fat are high are at risk. Bile also acts as a key factor in the absorption process of fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E and K.

Day Two focuses on correcting any imbalance by flushing the liver and gall bladder of extra cholesterol.

**Day Four is the Small and Large Intestine and Colon. This is a day of strengthening the lining of the intestinal wall and cleansing the colon. Today is a day, not so much of juicing but of blending. Dietary fiber is crucial for colon health and can gently exfoliate the lining of the intestines on its way out. Here we blend loads of cruciferous vegetable juices and organic grapes together. We add some L-glutamine and aloe vera for crucial support. We will minimize the bodies cravings for sugar in the gut, start to heal the microbiome, and allow for more serotonin to be made.

**Day Five is Spleen, Lymph and Pancreas day. Day four was a go hard day. This is a very light, sweet day. The spleen is responsible for the removal of old red blood cells and the production and storage of white blood cells (lymphocytes) which will cleanse bacteria from the blood. The spleen is functionally equivalent to a large lymph node with a focus on cleansing our blood and aiding immunity. It is an Organ of transformation and nourishment. Through the transforming action of the Spleen, food becomes nutrition, and sensual experience such as touch is received and transformed into a core sense of well-being. It is also through the Spleen that healing energy is received into the body. The Spleen is responsible for nourishment, pure and simple. A strong Spleen ensures that a person is well nourished. A weak Spleen may result in being undernourished and chronic infections. At the physical level, it is possible to eat a good diet yet not be strong enough to convert the food into proper nourishment. This is the day we give the spleen what it needs to make up for stagnation or deficiency.

Juicing Tips & Tricks

  • Wash and chop all ingredients before you begin juicing. This makes the process go much faster.

  • If you’re juicing for three meals a day, you can juice once and store juice in the refrigerator.

  • Homemade juice doesn’t last very long in the refrigerator, so drink it within 24 hours or so. The raw natural enzymes die within 3 hours. Minerals and anti-oxidants will remain.

  • Clean up your juicer immediately following use. Dried pulp is difficult to wash off.

  • If a vegetable, fruit or herb doesn’t yield a lot of juice, juice something full of water with it, like a cucumber, apple, or celery stalk. You will yield twice as much juice from the original item by juicing them both together.

  • Cut off lemon, lime, grapefruit and orange peels before you juice. They aren’t good for you.

  • You do not need to peel ginger root before juicing it.

  • Sometimes the ingredients listed are measured and sometimes they won’t be, depending on how much juice you desire. Measured ingredients are this way to preserve overall taste.
